Every year as we approach fall, I get excited. I love colder weather and the feeling of a cool breeze puts a smile on my face. The season is changing, and that is not the only thing changing. Over the last few months, it seems everything has changed. From school and grocery shopping, to eating out, everything is different. Will it change again? I’m sure of it.
Most of us like our routine and do not welcome any deviation from our way of doing things. However, change is an inescapable reality of life and how we choose to look at it can make all the difference in our mental and emotional health. The Bible tells us that everything has a season:
“To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven: A time [a]to be born, And a time to die; A time to plant, And a time to pluck what is planted; 3 A time to kill, And a time to heal; A time to break down, And a time to build up; 4 A time to weep, And a time to laugh; A time to mourn, And a time to dance; 5 A time to cast away stones, And a time to gather stones; A time to embrace, And a time to refrain from embracing; 6 A time to gain, And a time to lose; A time to keep, And a time to throw away; 7 A time to tear, And a time to sew; A time to keep silence, And a time to speak; 8 A time to love, And a time to hate; A time of war, And a time of peace.” Ecclesiastes 3:1
Things change, and they always will, but if we understand that God sees all and knows all, then we can respond properly to this change.
There is no doubt that everything going on in our nation right now is hard to walk through and is creating a great amount of anxiety and unrest. Fortunately, we have a God Who will never change and is always with us. Hebrews 13:8 (NLT): Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. No matter what is going on around us we can rest in knowing that Jesus never changes. His love, mercy, and grace will be available to us if we simply surrender to His love and make Him Lord of our life.
