Hope: Finding the Silver Lining

By OneShare Health on 10:41 AM on April 25, 2023

To find or create Hope, you must first find the silver lining. But how does one do that and where do they begin? First, let’s look at the actual definition. The silver lining is a sign of hope or a positive aspect in an otherwise negative situation. The phrase is often seen as part of the proverb ‘Every cloud has a silver lining, meaning that there's hope or something good to be found in every bad situation’.

We know one thing for certain, God’s timing is never wrong. If that is the case, then the trials and obstacles we encounter in life are meant to happen. It’s how we handle them and what we do with them that defines us. Therefore, one most truly learn to build on the past to redefine the future! This takes time, patience, and a deep understanding of God’s love for us. Knowing that even during hard times, he is with us and will never forsake us.

Think of it like an equation. When you find the meaning in something, it leads to hope and hope equals the pathway to RENEWAL. Hope it was keeps us going when things are tough. Hope is what allows us to take one step forward when we can’t take anymore. Hope is what God created for us to hang on long enough so we could witness the glory of His miracles.

Mind set is everything and can mold you or destroy you. What is your current mind set and do you check it daily? Is it positive or negative? Is it realistic and achievable or daunting and exhausting? Positivity isn’t born, it’s created and that is one thing we CAN control. I found two acronyms for H.O.P.E. that stood out to me. Have Only Positive Expectations AND Hold On Pain Ends. How inspiring and a great reminder for all!

It's very common for ‘why’ to be the first thing that creeps into our minds when something challenging occurs. Why me? Why now? Why this? As hard as it is at the time, we must take a breath and let God take control. He knows the ‘why’ and that’s all that matters. Sometimes we realize the answers later in life and sometimes that epiphany never occurs at all. For some, the hardest part is the silver lining may not have been for your benefit but someone else.

Wait what? Yep, you heard correctly. Sometimes we are involved in a situation, but the true meaning was meant for someone else. This is what God does best. He uses different pieces of the puzzle to create a beautiful masterpiece! I am in awe of his work and envy of his patience and understanding. We all should strive to be more like Christ as He sees the silver lining, positivity and goodness in all people and all things.

Another factor to consider is your surroundings and environment which play a major role in this journey as well. In fact, it can be the main force driving you one way or the other. Remember, anything is possible, but you have to believe it to achieve it. If you seek positivity, you will find it and vice versa. We must train our brains to focus on the how will I use this instead of why did this happen to me. There is a reason for everything but that doesn’t mean we will always find or know the answer in the end.

When we seek answers, we tend to search too hard and look too far. Sometimes, it’s as simple as opening your Bible. Christ knows your pain, obstacles, and silver lining but you must seek Him first and always. Isaiah 40:31 tells us "But those who hope in the Lord will RENEW their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint."
