The subject of hydration brings up a lot of questions like, why is it good to drink water? Is drinking water to lose weight possible? How much water should I drink a day? How can I make sure I'm drinking water everyday?
So, let’s take a closer look…
It’s all down to biology. Water regulates our body temperature, helps maintain blood pressure, lubricates the joints, improves skin health and beauty, and cushions the brain, spinal cord, and other tissues.
We lose water from our bodies every day through perspiration, breath, urine, and other functions. And we have to replenish our daily water intake for proper health. The U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine studied this subject to determine how much water to drink per day. They recommend 15.5 cups a day for men and 11.5 cups of water for women.
In short, it helps! Water intake is a natural way to suppress your appetite. You’re just too full to reach for those donuts. Good hydration may also stimulate your metabolism which, in turn, could help you lose weight. Plus, drinking water fuels your exercise, helping you to burn calories. And, finally, water helps your body remove waste that you may be carrying around with you.
First, start off your day with a tall glass of water. Before you even get out of bed, begin with hydration. Throughout the day, keep a water bottle with you at all times and track how much you’re drinking. You can even purchase a bottle with measurements on the outside to help you track your progress – or make your own! But, water can also come in the form of fruit like watermelon, apples, oranges, etc. And you can even snack on ice chips or make your own fruit-infused frozen snacks for a cool, hydrating treat.
Stay refreshed and properly hydrated every day and you’ll definitely see the benefits to your body and your health. Make drinking water a lifelong daily habit and you’ll reap the rewards!
