Most of us don’t have enough time to exercise as we should, but with busy schedules and full-time jobs, finding time to get active can seem impossible, but it doesn’t have to be! Below are four ways to find more time to fit exercise into your routine, even if you’re short on time.

Instead of heading back to your desk as soon as you hit a nearby sandwich shop, take a few minutes for exercise. Walk laps around the building, do some push-ups in an empty conference room, or stretch out your arms and legs to help combat that stiff-from-sitting-all-day feeling. While 20-30 minutes is ideal if you’re short on time, five or ten minutes will do. The goal is to get up and move!
The average American is sedentary for about 9.3 hours a day, which means they spend more than half of each waking hour not moving at all. Finding new ways to stay active during your daily routine can help you sneak in extra daily steps without feeling too tired or overworked. For example, if you walk to and from work every day, take an alternate route that’s slightly longer but allows you to stop and talk with a coworker or classmate. Also, park farther away from your destination so that you must walk several blocks; since walking burns twice as many calories per minute as standing still, even short walks add up fast!
Walking your dog is a great way to exercise, but don’t forget about yourself. Exercising with your pet is a great bonding experience for you and your dog, but it can also be good if you incorporate some exercise into it. Dog walking may be one of our most beneficial forms of physical activity and one of our most enjoyable ones!
Workouts don’t have to be painful, lonely experiences. There are plenty of ways you can incorporate some exercise into your daily routine by hanging out with friends or having fun with your family. Most of these ideas require no prior planning or coordinated schedules but will still give you a satisfying workout and make it easier to stick with your fitness goals long-term. In addition, being active does not always have to feel like a chore. Working out as a group can make it much more fun!
