For many new Members, one of the most confusing moments comes after a doctor’s visit.
A medical bill arrives in the mail. There may be unfamiliar terminology, paperwork from the Provider, or references to things like “Sharing Requests” and “Eligible for Sharing.”
If you’ve ever wondered what happens next in the Health Care Sharing process, you’re not alone.
The good news is that once you understand the basics, the process becomes much easier to navigate.
At OneShare Health, a Sharing Request is simply the process used to review and coordinate Eligible medical expenses among Members according to the Membership Guidelines.
Here’s a closer look at how it works.
A Sharing Request is submitted when a Member receives medical care for an Eligible need and the medical expenses are sent to OneShare Health for review.
Unlike traditional insurance models, Health Care Sharing works through Members supporting one another by contributing monthly amounts that help share Eligible medical expenses within the community.
OneShare Health acts as the facilitator, helping coordinate the process and guide Members through each step of the experience.
After receiving medical care, the Provider may send the bill directly to OneShare Health for review. In some situations, Members may also receive medical bills, statements, or Explanation of Benefits documents in the mail.
This is a normal part of the process and does not necessarily mean there is a problem.
Once the bill is received, OneShare Health reviews the medical expense according to the Membership Guidelines and the Member’s selected Program to determine whether the need is Eligible for Sharing.
Several factors may be considered during review, including:
The goal is to help ensure Sharing Requests are processed consistently and according to the Guidelines agreed to by all Members.
One term Members may see during the Sharing process is the Individual Sharing Amount, commonly referred to as the ISA.
The ISA is the amount a Member is responsible for before eligible expenses may be shared for certain services. ISA amounts vary depending on the selected Program.
Some services may work differently depending on the Program selected. For example, Virtual Urgent Care (Telemedicine) may be shared differently than other types of medical services.
Because every Program is unique, reviewing the Membership Guidelines carefully can help Members better understand what to expect before medical needs arise.
After the review process is complete, Members receive an Explanation of Sharing that outlines how the Sharing Request was processed.
This document may include:
For many Members, this step helps provide clarity and a better understanding of how their Sharing Request moved through the process.
Health care can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially when medical bills and unfamiliar paperwork start arriving unexpectedly.
That’s why understanding how Sharing Requests work can make a meaningful difference. When Members know what to expect, the process often feels less stressful and easier to navigate.
Keeping copies of medical bills, reviewing communications carefully, and reaching out to Member Support with questions can all help create a smoother experience.
At its heart, Health Care Sharing is about Members helping Members through times of medical need.
Through monthly Contributions, Members support one another while being part of a community centered on faith, compassion, and wellness.
At OneShare Health, our goal is to help Members feel supported, informed, and cared for throughout every step of the Sharing process.
