While health sharing ministries like OneShare are not considered health insurance, some features of our Health Care Sharing Ministry (HCSM) might be familiar to you. For instance, much like an insured person has access to a network of providers through their insurance plan, OneShare Health Members belong to a Provider Network that includes doctors, hospitals, and other health care facilities at over 1.5 million health care service locations nationwide.
What is a Provider Network?
A Provider Network is a list of health care providers (i.e. physicians, hospitals, and other health care facilities) who are contracted by a health care company, such as OneShare Health, and who provide medical care to Members enrolled in Programs offered by that specific health care company.
What is a Network Provider?
Any provider who is contracted by a health care company and provides medical care to its Members is known as a “Network Provider.” In OneShare Health’s case, these providers are called “In Network Providers.”
Members who receive Eligible care and services from within the Provider Network receive discounts on these services based on a contract entered into by the provider and the health care company.
What does ‘Out-of-Network Provider’ mean?
An Out-of-Network Provider is a provider who is not part of your health care program's Provider Network, meaning they have not entered into a contract with your health care program or negotiated discounted services for Members of that health care program.
Unlike In Network Providers, Out-of-Network physicians and health care facilities don’t offer discounts for care and services rendered, which means the Member may be responsible for paying the difference between the provider’s full charge and their specific health care Program’s allowed amounts and/or Maximum Limits. This is referred to as ‘balance billing.’
At OneShare Health, our preferred Provider Network is First Health®, but our Members still have the freedom to choose their own providers, even if they’re Out-of-Network.
Is my provider a First Health® Network Provider?
If your provider is not In Network, you’ll receive an email from OneShare stating they are Out-of-Network. Don’t worry, though! If you have a long-standing relationship with this provider and would like to nominate them to become a part of the First Health® Network, just email the provider’s name, address, and phone number to email@example.com or call 1-866-284-4286. You can also click Nominate My Provider within the same email—it’s that easy!
